I'm on Rations...

Blog rations that is...I must carefully look through my list of favourites every day and choose wisely which ones I REALLY want to take a peek at. I'm trying so so hard to avoid photo heavy sites...but that's what I LOVE...I love to look, to take a glimpse into the lives of others, to know that there are others out there with the same struggles and joys.
Why the rationing?
...because there is absolutely no way I want to suffer through even one day of Internet at dial up speed...It's TORTUROUS...
I just hope I can maintain the little glimpses for another week...

Happy Birthday Nanna B

My Nanna turned 90 last Friday...we had a little get together for her. Just close family.
I think she was wondering what all the fuss was about...and looked like she really wanted to be at home curled up in a comfy chair.

I am ashamed to say that I have lost touch with her and the rest of the family in recent years...I haven't really taken the time to visit her and I know that I should really make the effort.

I haven't been to my grandparents house since my Pa passed away just over 5 years ago...I half expected to see him walk in the door at the Party on Saturday...I miss him more with each passing year.
It saddens me that my girls never got the opportunity to meet him. I have so many great memories of him from my childhood...he was a hardworking man and a fun Grandfather.
I remember games of cricket in the backyard, the smell of his shed ( a mixture of oil and dirt floor), his homegrown veggies...how he always took me down to the garden to pick veggies (especially peas, my favourite) to take home with me whenever I visited.
I remember my Nanna making us cheese and tomato sandwiches and tall glasses of Activite. Nut Loaf and Milo biscuits, popping snapdragons in the garden along the driveway and her trying to teach me to play the piano...without success.
I remember sitting around the laminex table in the dining room and wandering out to the shed to see Pa's vintage engines working...yabbying in the dams, watching while the sheep were shorn.

Time passes...you get caught up in your own life and your own family and your own struggles. You lose track of the years and before you know it 5 years have passed...and your Nanna turns 90.

Happy Birthday Nanna B

Daybook Monday

FOR TODAY...3rd of May 2010

Outside My Window...The grass is green and the leaves are falling...I love Autumn, although it is taking me a while to adjust to the cooler weather and the need to have the heater on.

I am thinking...that I am really going to have to start seriously thinking of moving the not so little, little one out of our bed and into her own. It really is becoming a ridiculous situation...she will be 17 months old in 5 more days. NOT GOOD!

I am thankful for...I know I really shouldn't struggle with the question...so why am I? So many little things to be thankful for...just not feeling the love at the moment for some reason.

From the kitchen...I was a bit naughty at the supermarket this morning and bought a little too much junk and overspent...feeling a bit of buyers remorse while I eat my chocolate mint slice biscuit.

I am wearing...shoes...because my feet are cold.

I am creating...so many things all at once...unfortunately most of them are only in my head. I want to get my etsy shop up and running but I just can't find the time. Miss C has been a sleeping terror, or should that be non-sleeping terror.

I am going...to buy Miss S a night light. She has developed a sudden fear of the dark, and has been asking her dad to leave the door open so it isn't so dark in her room at bedtime.

I am reading...who has time to read?

I am hoping...that Peanut (our cat) doesn't EVER feel the desire to bring another live mouse into the house...we had to chase it around and throw it out...I guess we should have actually killed it, but it was bad enough having to catch it.

I am hearing...What else would I be hearing except the incessant voice of my firstborn. Some days I wish I could just put some earplugs in and take a break. Love her to bits, but she could talk the leg off an iron pot.

Around the house...Half finished projects...barely started projects...desperately need to be started projects. Do I need to say BATHROOM!

One of my favourite things...sesame prawn toasts...YUM!!

A few plans for the rest of the week...I need to send the girls shopping with Mr Pixies to buy Mothers Day presents. Ring the plumber about getting a new toilet. Paint the sheet of MDF I bought to make a chalkboard with. Make some stuff for etsy. List said stuff on etsy. sigh...

A photo to share...hmmm! still no recent photos...what am I doing with my days?
These little guys are from Easter...made for my girls using a tutorial from Revoluzza.
I never expected them to become absolute favourites...but they are. They go almost everywhere with my girls. The blue one has even been to the hospital with Miss C to watch her have stitches put in...I think he's slightly traumatised by the whole experience.
They are certainly not looking so pristine now, what with Easter chocolate and blood and dirt...must be almost time for them to have a bath...and they have been loaned some dresses...they do look awfully cute in them...

Hope everyone has a fruitful week...Be back next Monday...perhaps sooner, no guarantees!

FOR TODAY...26th of April 2010

Outside My Window...Night has fallen...the crickets are chirping and the moon is shining brightly on my garden full of weeds.

I am thinking...about how many things in our house and on our car are falling apart. Maintenance and repairs...it feels like we have been on a never ending fixing spree. TV, car door handle, brakes, toilet, light fittings that need rewiring...*sigh*

I am thankful for...my dad, who seems to be able to fix anything...and is usually willing to help us out.

From the kitchen...carrot and coriander soup...full fridge and overflowing pantry...homemade Anzac Biscuits (and they are chewy!!! YUM).

I am wearing...long sleeves, it's so cold today...I complain all summer about the heat and then a cold day hits and I complain about not being able to get warm.

I am creating...still working on that baby quilt...progress is being made slowly but surely.

I am going...to put my feet in front of the heater and watch some television and wait for Mr Pixies to get home from his cricket.

I am reading...Notebook Magazine...some really lovely recipes in this months issue...have already tried 2.

I am hoping...to get the baby quilt finished before the baby arrives...could be a close call.

I am hearing...Paul McDermott trying to be funny on GNW...bit over it atm,  must get up and change the channel.

Around the house...I still haven't tackled the laundry...it's a complete disaster area...things just seem to gravitate towards the laundry and get lost in there.

One of my favourite things...when someone really loves something I made...and takes beautiful photos of it. I made a vintage inspired dress for my niece...you can see the photos on Our Girly World, my lovely sister in laws blog.

A few plans for the rest of the week...No set plans this week. Hoping to have a quiet one.

A photo to share...photos are a big ask at the moment. The camera really hasn't made much of an appearance around here lately. So this is one from back in August of last year.

Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend...have a great week.

The Swing Incident...

We had a lovely visit to see some family in Sunbury on Saturday morning...even though I got lost about 4 times (damn you google maps for your lack of detail!!!!), and Miss C only got about 20 minutes sleep on the way because I had to stop and read the Melways. We made it eventually and the girls had a wonderful time playing with their cousins. We stayed for lunch and some lovely adult conversation. I thought C would sleep on the way home but no such luck...but at least we didn't have too much complaining.

We got home at around 4 and I sent the girls out to the backyard to play while Mr Pixies and I sat down to relax for a bit...20 minutes later I heard a scream from C that I had never ever heard before...I bolted out the back and there she was sitting on the gound with blood pouring from her head. I immediately put pressure on it and screamed for Mr Pixies. S was hiding because she was scared. We all climbed into the car, dropped S off at her Grans and headed for the hospital.

Long story short...S was swinging on the see-saw swing and C walked behind her...she has a semi circular cut in her head that goes down to the bone...lots and lots of screaming and SIX stitches...we had an amazing triage nurse and a brilliant doctor. The cut is in her hairline so any scar wont be noticeable.

It still makes tears well in my eyes every time I think about it...what if the swing had hit her lower down on the forehead and fractured her skull, or in the eye, or knocked out her teeth...She is incredibly lucky.

This accident hasn't slowed her down any...she's still climbing and getting into everything...she is so much more adventurous than her sister...a real daredevil.

She still managed to pull silly faces at me even with a bandage wrapped around her head...I love her so so much.
